Coming from a background of generations of European master painters, we know what it takes to do the job right. Born in Switzerland and moving to America with his family in 1960, Herb Rimmel had an ideal upbringing to groom him for his future trade. His father was a painter who learned the craft back when it required a college education and years of apprenticeship before he earned the title of journeyman.

After many years of training with his father in all the “old school” techniques he moved from Chicago to Portland with his young family There he worked for several years learning more modern procedures and, inevitably, in 1995 Herb Rimmel Fine Painting got its start. It was during this time that the next generation of Master Painter began his path; Hunter Benson was working his way through college painting homes, earning degrees and building his own skills in the craft.

When the two craftsmen met in 2010 Hunter had already been a journeyman in Portland for four years and was busy growing his own small family. Over the next thirteen years Hunter worked under Herb's exacting tutelage, perfecting the finer points of his craft. In 2023 the merging of old-world wisdom and modern sensibilities was complete with Hunter Benson taking the helm of Herb Rimmel Fine Painting LLC. Hunter has brought new energy and perspective to the company, ensuring the future of an age-old craft. 

Today we still employ the same time-tested methods that have been passed on to our small crew of journeyman painters. A small crew allows for careful oversight of every aspect of our work, and peace of mind that your job will be done the way it should, expertly and professionally.
